Looks simple enough, except for the chap PCB traces....

I was just about to place an order and give it a go, and I thought I'd run it by the board first.

Gus?

uh, that just takes me to a main page.. directions from there?

I own a few mc(mk?)-012 which have been modded quite a bit... i like them much more than most other mics too.. especially since they are so cheap but sound great once you fix a few design flaws.

I change the input cap to 1000pf polystyrene. I change the rf filter caps to good film. I install a good 1uf fim for the 1uf tant or Al electro.

I have not had problems with noise from the fets plastic or metal can or the input Rs. I think the ones I worked on were later ones.

I like the circuit nice and simple and clean.

oh ok it's just the dorsey mods.

yeah i agree with Gus on most of those mods. I liked polyester instead of the polystyrene but that's just taste for this mic. for *c2* in the dorsey schematic , i changed those to ~47uf with .1polypro in parallel(what i had handy). EDIT:i just read that he suggested putting a .1uf in parallel too.. I've never had noise problems either, but all of mine came with the "preferred" FETs.

I put into mine a 3Mf film cap instead of 1Mf--fits the body perfectly:

The Red suare audio site http://cgi.ebay.com/Oktava-ML-52-ML-53-Ribbon-Microphone-Modification_W0QQitemZ7407045147QQcategoryZ15198QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem says the new versions have the improvements in them. Anyone know if this is true? If so that makes the new one even more of a good deal.

I'm not much for trying something out of peer pressure, but I have a matched pair of these. I'm pretty happy with them on accoustic, but they seem a little "sizzly" to me. Do any of these mods deal with that? I know this may be a subjective question, but what the heck...

Sizzly? My stock mics were anything but sizzly. If anything, the mod opens up the high end, increases detail, and extends the low end. Some of the lower mid haze clears up as well. It's a great mod! I love those mics now.

Brad

yeah no sizzle here, if anything the mods got rid of the sizzle. if you have too much sizzle try polypro or polyester for the FET cap.
