I wonder how cost effective it is as far as the plastic goes.

So many outlets available for us to achieve/make whatever we like.
There was me thinking CAD was amazing. I can design on my computer. Send an email. A  few days later my goods arrive.
This takes it to a new level.

 
this is a relatively popular thing now... The V90 Probotix Fireball, and the Lumenlab Micro all for under $2K fully built now.

Both of the ones that I've seen will handle metal panels easily, and will also do single sided PCB's simply too.

my personal fave at the moment is the lumenlab micro... they are even talking about being able to do pick and place with it.  :eek:
 
Sure there are now affordable 3d printers, but this expands the idea quite tremendously, although they are being a bit idealistic here. common in open source community. concepts like society wide change.

but the ideas presented here are intriguing, especially about the raw materials vs. manufacturing of goods. very futuristic.
