I have a number of MXL V67s that I use for bodys of microphones. I have found that if I sandblast the body I can use Bondo to fill the engraved name etc on the body. I then place it in my lathe and sand the bondo flush then paint.

Cool.
You can use a glaze coat over the bondo for a real smooth finish, but it costs about $30 a bottle. It's just bondo, only with super fine particles when you sand.
Try 400 git and wet sand after primer.
