Ladies and Gents,

this is a consolidated post in the White Market, linking out to other threads etc.

GSSL Mods

3 different boards are available from Expat Audio for your GSSL

The GSSL "Turbo"
Bring your GSSL closer to the real thing with this sidechain mod. Well written about in other threads, a video showing the board in use can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQD8GPhFGYE
Good threads on it:

Check out the product at: http://www.expataudio.com/

The GSSL CRC
Lower the noise of your GSSL by filtering the power. This board is inserted between your transformer and the PCB.

Threads: http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=35641.0

The GSSL VU Meter Board
Use a standard VU meter to display Input, Output and Gain reduction on your GSSL.
This makes is more similar to the 1176.

Digital Switching Products

four new products to announce today, as part of a new family of DIY friendly products from Expat Audio.
[flash=425,344]http://www.youtube.com/v/L6qMGKU9BOE&hl=en[/flash]

3 Button Control Board
Swap big ol’ metal toggle switches on your front panel, for sexy backlit ones, and control the switching digitally.
Check out the Video at: http:// http://www.youtube.com/user/expataudio#play/uploads/3/L6qMGKU9BOE

Balanced and Unbalanced Digitally Controlled Switches
Take the 3,3V signals from the control board and switch relays in your system using these boards. Designed to route audio in a balanced or unbalanced configuration, these boards can be considered as remotely controlled DPDT and DP4T switches.

Digitally Controll Mic Pre Front End
Control Pad, Phantom and Polarity from a digital source. (such as the 3 button control board above)
The video says it all… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6qMGKU9BOE

Perfect, but GSSL Mods aren't available  :'( any info when there are available?
All the best stoff

Gotta get the order in tongiht, lead time is around 2 to 3 weeks (the PCB's are made in China, then shipped to the US)

So you figure you'll have the CRC boards for the SSL by the end of the month?
I registered on your site hoping to get an email notification when they come in. Thanks for making those boards handy. 8)

Hi Rochey,

just wondering can those 3 Button Control Boards switch out a resistor or capicitor without  using a relay . i am building  a pico, so i thought it would look good no need for those expensive switches

Would the boards work as switch in this application.

Hello Skal1,

the 3 button controller simply switches a 3.3V signal on an output pin. What you send it to from there, is entirely up to you.

The relay pcb's are a very simple arrangement, transistor with a 1KOhm resistor attached to the base. The emitter is tied to ground, and there's a diode in parallel with the relay (that's connected between VDD and the collector).

to borrow a schematic from another website (http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com) the schematic looks like this.

let me chew on things a little more to see how they could be hacked to make a switch

cheers

A relay truly is the most flexible answer.

You CAN switch using a FET so long as the voltage range at the drain and source is known and stays within a certain range... if you're switching a resistor in a control voltage chain that's one thing, but if you're trying to route audio signals, SSL discovered that you really have to use voltages at the gate which EXCEED the range of the signal flowing through the Drain/Source path...

So It gets a little complicated... whereas a relay is almost invariably simple by comparison.

hi Rochey

look forward to your reply MY idea is to use your 3 button as simple open and close application but hey  i might be missing something.

Hello Skal1,

I had a long chat with Keith on the way back from work. I think there's a little confusion on what your trying to do.

Can you post part of the schematic here, and circle the bit your trying to replace? I'm not an expert on the Pico I'm afraid.

cheers

Hi Rochey ,

Wayne has taken down all schematic, may i have not explain my self properly.

Needs
---------
1} replace toggle switches with your 3 button board

2} object of toggle  is to open or short  a resistor or capacitors.

i understand your circuit works as trigger for a relay boards so i  was just thinking i could lose the relay ..

Basically all  i need the 3 button do is open and shut ..

I do think it will  not be so simple  though
skal1

Yeah Rochey i work that out now , so if i needed too switch 6 different switches i would need 2 of  3 button  boards and  6  of your Single Ended Signal Relay, then i would need 6 relays  to switch the corresponding point .. or i could  fab a board that had 6  pn222 transistor and 6 single  ended relays

Is this correct.

UPDATE: Turbo Boards, CRC Boards and VU Meter Boards have just come back in to stock.

http://www.diypartssupply.com will have kits available soon too.

Yep... they're popular!

-I'll make a video showing the CR patched in and bypassed, and showing the difference in noise floor hum... As soon as my wife gets back from Nevada with the video camera! ;D
