I just found this short interview with Fred Forssell:
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/428379-fred-forssell-his-smp-500-pre.html
His background is pretty interesting. I like the part where he talks about his interests for listening to songbirds and sounds from nature.
There is some talking about transformer balanced vs transformerless gear, he says he prefers discrete circuits over transformer balanced. This came at right moment for me, i'm just finding out that i often prefer outputs without transformer.
There are a few more things that i find interesting, if anyone has another interview that can be posted please do it, i like the way this guy explains things.

I hope this was not posted yet, i couldn't find it with search.

mostly A line level output running unbal is not a problem ,
i believe the massenburg gear runs unbalenced as much as
possible  [ someone correct me if i'm wrong ]
for the sonic purity of avoiding extra circuitry ?

Hmm Fred pust a little emphasis on the power supply design
wonder how the grp 51 design is doing ?

Fred is a very cool designer and a nice guy.

a year ago I have had the same idea, that time he was still selling the JMP-1 module:
... with the (hopefully) upcoming 500er DIY frame I thought it would be a good
time to think about an easy to build project for the Group DIY, and came
over your JMP-1 module...

Fred, I hope it is ok to quote parts of your nice answer:
I do not think the JMP-1 would work very well in that application.
The main
problem is the +/- 16 VDC power supply rails.  The JMP-1 has a
single-ended output that will product only about +18 dBu with those
power supply rail voltages.  Also, we only have a very limited stock
of the JMP-1 cards left (less than 20) and we need to keep those as
support/replacement parts for exiting owners of our products that
contain these boards. We do not plan on making any more of the JMP-1
because it is an older design that we do not use any more.  Our new
product use JMP-2 and JMP-3 cards, but because these are used in
currently active products we do not offer then for sale as plug-in
cards.  Also we are thinking about offering a 500 series preamp
using our JMP-3 card in the near future.

for sure it would have been done with the +/-24V option  ;)
but since Fred already worked on his own module I stopped thinking about it.
