Hi
I've this 350 € mic, and I want to make it sound better. It's not a bad chinese mic, but I want to reduce the noise floor and make it less brighter.
Maybe I could try a Royer mod ? (in this case I will lost the omni pattern)
Or change for a M7 capsule ?
I will draw a schematic if it could help, but any ideas are welcome.

In my opinion, the main problem with this mic is the capsule. I just don't like that capsule.

I'd either add some low-pass filtering to try and darken it a little, or swap the capsule for something nicer.

Also, you can remove the two caps and inductors next to the output transformer. They are unnecessary in my opinion. Remember to connect the transformer secondaries to the output XLR after removing though.

Thank you; what are the inductors for ?
If I swap the capsule for a Dale of Thiersch M7, will I need to modify the circuit too?
I was thinking that the noise came primarily from the circuit, but I'm not sure.

The inductors form an anti-RF filter with the capacitors.

An M7 capsule would sound a lot better, but mounting can be difficult.

The transformer in that mic actually doesn't measure too bad.

Ok, this is the schematic of the mic. Not very sure for the HP switch (this is my first draw...), but the rest seems ok. In fact, it's very similar to the SE2000.
All the polarized caps are tantalum, maybe I'll try to put some Elna instead ?
Most of the resistor values are mesured, this was painfull to read colors...
