Hi everybody and happy new year,
Santa gave me a nice PCM42  for Christmas,
but unfortunatly , the output mix pot is broken,
i've never seen such a pot,
it's a 10K  Linear  with center detent and 4 pins,
i've searched a lot, maybe it's a center "tapped" pot ,
but i canno't find any of these,
does anybody have such part or know a place where to get some ?
Regards,
Pacemaker

mmmm,
i don't think so
the original part number is ALPS 9032r 10kb,
it's a potentiometer with a center detent,
and it has a "start" and an "end" so it's not a rotary encoder,
but thanks for the help,
any PCM42 guru around ?

Have you measured between the pins? (Are two common?)
Have you opened up the pot if it's truely broken? Maybe you can salvage the pot? I've been able to do that in the past.

many years ago, I bought some pots off farnell and they had 4 pins. So i don't think it's too hard to get them.

Regards
Mike

unfortunatly, the pins were broken during shipping,
so i couldn't measure betweens them,
but on the broken pot it s written 10kB,
so i know the value,i am missing the type,
and after searching, i found that it could be a center "tapped" pot,
different from a classic center detent pot on EQs,
if someone knows about PCM-42  or 4 pins pots with a center position,
it would be really helpfull,
if i know the type of pot it is, it will be easier to find a replacement part,
cause now i canno't find the answer around me.

Did you look at the main alps web site ?

http://www.alps.com/WebObjects/catalog.woa/E/HTML/Potentiometer/RotaryPotentiometers/RotaryPotentiometers_list1.html

What about this one
http://uk.farnell.com/alps/rk11k11410ka/potentiometer-10ka/dp/919093

looks to have 4 pins, but it's 10Ka

Yes, 4 pins, that's right,
but it seems like a classic 9mm snap-in pot,
not a center detent one and not a 16mm like mine
i will try to take some pictures of my unit,
and of the broken pot,

thanks for confirming this abbey road d'enfer,
so it's different from a classic center detent type right ?
and that's what is explaining the 4 legs right ?
any idea where i can find these kind of pots ?

The schematic is here:

You can replace the pot with a 11-position switch and set of 1k resistors.

Milan

very good tip !!
thank you very much,
i would rather like to keep the PCM-42 in it's original conditions,
so if i can to find the exact part, it would be better,
but i will keep your solution in case the pot never shows up,
will try on ebay,
but if anybody has a source,
i will really be grateful !
