Ok I hvae in front of me a telequipt ct71 transistor and jfet cuver tracer. I'm I'm trying without a manual to figure out what I'm doing to and what I should be seeing could someone help me understand this? I'm trying to match some 2n5210's Help

Wil,

A curve tracer will help you plot current versus voltage relationship. Beta or Hfe will be the calculated using Ic/Ib at the Vce of interest. Ic is calculated by picking your Vce and reading the Y-axis voltage. So Ic=Vy/Re (roughly).
The following is a common way of testing:
1. Insert the transistor so that base, collector and emitter are hooked up correctly.
2. Need to set Vce SWEEP between 0 and 10V.
3. For each sweep you need to adjust the base current, Ib, to the figure of interest. If you have a design that requires 20uA base current then you set it so.

If you want to characterize the device you usually have to do more work and do a Vce sweep in 20uA increments from 0 to 100uA.

Cheers,
Tamas
