hello everyone,

i was referred to go here about building a wordclock sync distribution.

has anyone built one and would it be easy to do?

i do not know anything about circuits and was thinking of just building a box and have bnc connectors on it and parallel wiring a bnc input to 6 outputs.

my friend tells me there must be more to it than just wiring several bnc connectors, saying that the impedence and other things may change?

thanks in advance

Hello and welcome.

Please consider doing a search before posting a new thread; this subject has been discussed a few times in the past:

You could also modify the word clock generator described in http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=20261.0 to be a distributor by replacing the crystal oscillator and the 74HC4040 with a Schmitt-trigger input (like in the GENx6 that Jim Zueshow links to in that thread).

If all that sounds too complicated, try daisy-chaining the WC, using splitters for each connected device. In that case you must take care to only enable the cable termination on the last device in the chain. While daisy-chaining doesn't give the best possible performance it does work, whereas just paralleling BNCs is likely to fail.

Then maybe buying one might not be a bad idea, if daisy-chaining doesn't work for you. This is an area that's easy to screw up in subtle ways.

Thanks JDB.

There was a post there about a cheap fix by buying a Video Distribution Amplifier to use as a Wordclock distributor. What are yours or anyone's thoughts about using one of those instead of T connectors or buying a dedicated Wordclock distributer like a Big Ben or Genx. There are some with RCA sockets and then there are some with BNC that I have seen on Ebay but I would like to know what peoples thoughts are before buying one.
