I think it's pretty difficult to put your finger on exactly what his talent was (in keeping with many influential people), but one thing's for certain: he was a unique one-off.

OMG!

i worked with him a few times. Very funny and charming, followed by very difficult. Quite a challenge, but very rewarding. My chum was due to make an album with him this year. This will seriously mess him up.

I should imagine that there's a party going on over at John Lydon's house, and that he can rest in peace, in the knowledge that the dirt on his grave will also be well stamped-down.

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching the Janet Street-Porter interview with John Lydon right after he left the Pistols... it was then that I was reminded of just how much rancour and vitriol there was between the two.

Definitely one-off. -He liked to provoke. He was also a clever manipulator, who understood that the press will lap up controversial stuff, and loves to polish an icon, and hold it up for all to admire... He played on their need, he fed them what they craved, and he did the same for the bands.

The 'Duck Rock' sessions were legendary for how much stuff was 'liberated' from control rooms by some of the dodgy low-rent session musicians who were brought in...

I didn't know him. -But he stood out as a character.
