Well, this is not very new project, I working on this in-between about 3 month.

Some time ago I did my own version of this comp.
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=24404.0

Some time ago I bought 11-slot rack from Silent Arts.
Simple rack which will do perfect job to hold 11 modules.......

Now, I have to fill the gaps.

First idea I got was GSSL. It is transformerless and can be squeezed
into 500 format easy.
Well, I like to have 4 paraleled VCA's in audio...
Option to switch between Oxford and Aarhus(Gyraf) link mode....
You guys love those strange filters in sidechain...well....
At least 3 sidechain HPF freq's and those funny TH??? How do you call them?
TL and TM, or SM and SL...well, you know what do we talkin' about...
THAT balanced receivers/drivers;
Simple and affordable Lorlin switches;
Relay bypass;
Bypass and link mode control on same 3 pos. on-of-on toggle;
Low parts cost
Good sound.

So, I have a target: 500 series, cheap compressor, good sound and no need to
freak with strange PCB's for sidechain/compressors, wires, mumbojumbo....

Well, when I started to put the front panel components into cad,
it fit perfect, even with suitable here Sifam 19B meter (with bezel)...

Now, the PCB is half-finnished.....

There will be:
2.5mm spacing pcb interconnections and 10 pin ribbons interconnects
for sidechain/hpf control. Even no any wire to strap except test jig wires,
just simple 3-pin Molex connectors in/out/power to test it outside the rack slot.

Cool. here is the schematic (right-click, save-as):

Work in progress........

I like it.

It's going to be interesting to see the outcome of this...I know of at least 2 other people working on this, lol.

yes, to my knowledge others are working on this too.
The early bird gets the worm :)

Nope, I am a night bird...morning is un-existing thing for me.
This means, all morning birds are welcome to make something better than me,
but as friend's advice, leave it and take from me pcb set :)

do you ever sleep  ???  :)
Yes, and perform other animalistic activities (eating, drinking, etc) in-between ;)
nice work , happy to keep my 51x box, it will be stereo or dual mono?
Stereo. Front will have controls layout close to console's compressor (and sidechain switch added).

i would like to put 202x inside but should be a dream.
There's 202x version with 4 paraleled 2181's, it is already inside.

More pics coming soon....................

why did they stop making them?
I don't get it...
cool project Igor  :)

Sifam moved most, if not all of their production to India/China.  Sounds like they were not doing well financially and I assume they needed to discontinue some less popular products.

Nice Igor!

Mike

Haw, night bird, right.

+1.

Looks like we're the same kinda sick kid ;)

Make it rock!

Oh and, thanks for linking.

Same.
My last girlfriend, even count-in case I am yoga-addicted,
runned out after  2 months of serious relations. She told me,
I spend too much time on unnecessary things like lp's, amps,
ESL's and reading classic Russian litherature books in hardware
instead of having a good time while...

One of the reasons my marriage didn't work out ;)

But she does understand me a-z thank god.

Even though, I have actually stopped being too much of a night bird.

After the Q I basically spent 3 months in bed and cooking
French. It was totally worth it, but gaaaah.

Crazy.

No more.

There will be a last production batch of those sifam on Canford. I will purchase some for stock even if they are expensive, good quality is going to be rare these days  ;).

PS: Maybe not worth making it possible for the 14PPM, since they are going to be rare  ???  :(

Sifam was a very good, profitable English company that made high quality products but unfortunately they got taken over by a large electronics group who, as you say, moved most of the production to China.
Last I heard the meter division was still in Torquay, but they might have moved that now as well.
Sifam is a classic example of how English manufacturers are gradually dying out. I tried to buy some knobs from them last year and they not only wanted the money upfront, there was a 2 month lead time.
When I eventually got the parts it was noticeable that the quality had definitely gone down.
I spoke to a long-time employee last year who said he couldn't wait to retire from the firm.
As to the meters, last time I enquired about those PPM's they were quoting £97 each (and that's not including postage etc.)
