I have two nice diy mics with an ELAM 250 circuit.  I use  250m grid to ground,  instead of 68m for inproved base response. I did a listening test, very simple... just changing the tubes one after the other and listen. I gave them a little time to warm up. 4 different versions of 6072 and a ecc801s.
GE 6072a five star white    silent , sounds very good
JAN 6072a silent, sounds good
JE  6072a white very silent , sounds very good
JE 6072a green ok silent, sounds ok
EH 6072 ok silent, sounds ok, well
but way the best is a telefunken ecc801s, I have two of them, but even the one which is a bit noisy I prefer over my 80$ five star mic selected tube.
the tube sounds less grainy than the american ones, just more real. still the GEs are great too.
