Guys, don't know if this test is bullet proof , but what's your opinion on that.

I have al ot of patchbays, outboard modules, cables etc in my studio, so I did the following test: put two identical signals on seperate tracks in my DAW.
route these out to outboard patch , into some eq's and compressors.
Dial in the same value on each of the HW.
Flip the phase on one of the signals in the DAW.

If the cancelation is 100%, does it mean that my cabling, patching and outboard is perfectly good?

It's a fair test
but it might only tell you that they are all the same.
... they could all be wrong ?

It may also not tell you when you have a double error in a single path.
to wrongs can make a right sort of stuff.

BUT anything that helps you get to know your studio is ultimately a good thing.

hmm, never thought about that  .
But hey, if ll my signal points are wired wrong, then it automaticaly becomes right , right ? :green:

yeah
but

these unknowns can lead to a stuff up when you can least deal with it.

A fast session and someone brings a unit that has hot and cold reversed .... ?
you patch it into the system and something is wrong.

cool ! I'm on to it ! :thumb:

install a polarity reverse lead .... but then you have an earth loop and the output is now distorted

....
cold. sheild, short ... earth ... loading ?
eeerrr ?
.....

quick , I'm hot , I want to do another take right now
anything could be wrong and you have no time to think
YOU'RE 'SPOSED TO BE RECORDING
right brain - left brain now at war with each other !!

It's just nice to know your studio is solid and you have total knowledge and faith in the infrastructure.
