A friend of mine is looking for a small, portable amplifier for voice.

She performs in free improv groups using various extended techniques and wants some reinforcement for larger ensembles, or when working with much louder instruments.

I don't think she needs massive volume as this is more for reinforcement than say, a vocal pa to get above a band.

Small, light and portable would be ideal, with a fair bit of clean headroom, her performances can have a wide dynamic range.

Other than keyboard/mixer amp type equipment I can't think of anything that may do the job.

Any ideas?

This is what all of the guys in the subway use:

It's small, cheap, has tons of inputs and it doesn't sound that bad if you dont push it too hard.

I've heard that the smaller electro voice can pack quite a punch for their size so check them out. A friend of mine uses one as a personal monitor when playing live gigs.

Thanks for the replies guys :), the electro voice is not available easily in the UK so will get her to check out the Roland.

Cheers!

I was going to suggest an old roland cube, you can normally find them pretty cheap secondhand. Solid, loud little
amps. I've seen plenty of small groups using them over the years.

The Fender Acoustasonic amps sound nice and very clean but tend to be heavy and expensive.  See a lot of them used for good prices.
