To all who complain about beat detective, believe me, you just haven't used it enough.
You can use it to map tempo, and then correct timing WITHIN the generated tempo.
You can extract grooves from within the performance and apply it to other sections (or apply different drummers' grooves to lesser performances).
You can split regions quickly and effectively. And as was said, with PT8's "enhanced resolution", it's certainly as accurate as hitting tab to transient.
You can use "collection mode" to generate beat markers from selected tracks only (without having to make multiple groups).
And the fill and crossfade option is useful for things other than drum editing.
Oh, and it does all of this without artifacts or phase issues.
Frankly, Beat Detective is one of the features that NO OTHER software has even come close to. It's almost too easy.
