Hi folks,

I'm planning to use the AK4101A DIT,
I'm using it as a slave, 24 bit LJ, hardware (syncronous) normal mode.

It is not clear, from the datasheet, how to correctly set the Fs.
In Tables 4 and 5 (page 18 of datasheet) it is explained how to set FS3-0 pins, respectively in consumer and professional mode.
My concern: is 'consumer' the default mode? (so I should use table 4 settings).
Any hints?

Thanks in advance.

I would say it depends on the application; do you want to output S/PDIF format or AES/EBU? The former is consumer, the latter is pro.
Generally, professional equipment is capable of handling both formats and consumer stuff may have problems or plainly not function when submitted to Pro format signal.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

I need the AES format.
So you just make connection for FS3-0 pins as stated in Table 5 and you're done?
Or is there a way that will let you choose for pro or consumer mode?

T.Y.

Uhm, sorry but I still don't understand how you set the chip for consumer or pro mode....
Can anyone clarify this?

The two formats are quite compatible with each other, differing only in the subcode information and connector. The professional format subcode contains ASCII strings for source and destination identification, whereas the commercial format carries the SCMS.
