the output on the gssl is not a pad. With the gain pot, I just dial in the amount of GR happening with the compression. Sounds fine to me and I can easily hear what the compressor is doing to the music.

not sure I understand correctly, could you give an example? Do you have a Gssl at hand to try it out?

With that being said, I like the gain makeup on my GSSL at exactly 5.25

...all gain/atten in the GSSL happens in the VCA...
