Maestro Mabtronix Pre: What Is It? (pics)

A client brought this guy over and now we are both scratching our heads.
What was it used for? Any good?

Small PA mixer/extender.

It is 1970s garage-shop production. The pots are commonly seen on low-price transistor gear, but then there's a tube chassis. Put-together from existing and new gear? Total production may be more than one, but surely not thousands.

Thanks PRR. Legend has it that it was sometimes sold with an Echoplex mounted in that top compartment. This one is sans.

Crazy. it looks like someone pulled the delay out and added a small power amp to an Echoplex EM-1 Groupmaster. Like this one:
