A good hint is that the text is copied from some other forum/webpage, so a googling of the text shows it's spammy

Hmmmmm.... I just posted one link and a couple paragraphs copied from another site.

I *HATE* forums where new members' posts are held for moderator action. Rude to the new member and must be an awful chore for the mods. But since many spammers are once/twice posters, maybe that's worth a thought?

Some forums require kaptcha or something similar for the fist X posts to cut down on spambots, but serious spammers are using real humans and porn websites to get humans to pass the kapcha test.

Death to spammers....

We use kaptcha too during the sign up process.

Currently all new members must be approved.  Not posts, but new accounts.

One additional problem I see is that although I've made this change recently, sometimes spammers lay dormant for a long time before making their first post.  So, there are spammers hidden amongst us that signed up a long time ago but just haven't reared their ugly head just yet.
