yea i have seen trimmable el panels, i remember in the search for diy t4b a couple of months back.

arent there any consumer type products we could by an steal the el panel from?
maybe old mobile phones?

folks here have used night lights with varying degrees of success. Like, this style:

But I'd like to register my interest in a group buy for the real deal from LSI. Surely we can get these down to $50 with enough participants.

Does someone have this info archived? I think it used to be on the groupdiy account but I can't find it there now.

Can anyone put it back up there? (or send to me?)

I haven't followed this thread but this maybe useful? http://se.farnell.com/surelight/400-2001/el-panel-wht-60x60/dp/1498084

Thanks Peter, thats helping a lot :)

I am unable to source the EL panel and the Diodes, neither to acquire a TR4b. Drip does not answer mail and his
inbox is full here on prodigy-pro... Any ideas ?

http://www.rapidonline.com/ carry the OA91.
As for the el panel.... fuknose.... seems like we'll have to hang on for the slow reply.

FWIW, I ordered T4's from joe-electro of this forum, he is selling them under the Kenetek name.  Initial testing looks good, but I haven't done any tracking with the new comp yet.  I ordered last week and they showed up in a matter of days.  I had been trying to order from Drip, but he did not respond to emails.

I am not affiliated, and all of that...
Cheers,
Ryan

Buying a stereo pair plus shipping = About $250.00
Then your going to tear them apart and use the panel and sensers.
Whoa, these parts are killing me. Is there an equally good and less expensive way to do this?

Crap, I just realized that it prolly sounds like I was talking about buying those T4's for this project- I didn't. They were for a drip LA-2A.  Drip wouldn't get back to me, and "real" T4's were around $180, so I took a flyer on the Kenetek.  Sorry if that was confusing.

Just sent an email to Kenetec to see if they'd be interested in selling EL panels separately. Will post any news, good or bad.

Too bad, just like Drip he was a DIY member here once.

Meh. What can you do. I'm honestly only annoyed because I want it... but he won't sell it to me.  ;)

Maybe we should be looking for suppliers of EL panels and LDR's for a group buy instead.

I already have. The answer was an astounding "no".

indeed. astounding? perhaps 'understandable'... after all, they use their custom spec'ed panels to make a commercial product. If they sold the EL panels freely, you could make an identical product for less money. Since they've invested in their product development, its reasonable that they'd want to protect that investment.

anyways, Bill from Kenetek was very helpful; aside from emailing me back very quickly, he did suggest to take a look at http://www.astronics.com/ for the supply of EL panels, as they're apparently the closest to original spec of the currently available panels. Has anyone tried emailing them yet?

errrm. Right. When there is no "maybe" about it... then yes, it was an "astounding" no. I think you are reading to much into it.
