Hi,

Just wondering, has anyone experience with the budget-line AKG D11 ?  (also called D11XLR).
So not the D112, but this beast:

Have already '12(E), '421, '441 for bass-cabs, but you all know how this goes, was nevertheless wondering if the D11 could be fun to add.

They're going cheap, seem well made and as it seems they're having a different signature
than the usual (...) 'low-mics'.

Brighter, less proximity, maybe even to the extend that it's puzzling why
AKG called this a bass-mic ;-)

Thanks !

BTW, I don't hang around here as often as I used to, but good to see this place alive !  :)

Let's give this previous lone post some company...

Funny mic this, at first hearing it's hard to understand why this would
be a kick or bass-cab mic. Expecting thick bass, but no. But as it turns out it's all there, it just isn't pre-tailored as the usual suspects.
So it needs EQ, which it seems to take well so far.

So the disadvantage that it needs additional tweaking, but the advantage that at least
you can control where that will end up, unlike pre-shaped mics (which might miss the point frequency-wise, see the recordinghacks-story).

It's solid (sturdy metal body), but let's see if the plastic mount with the integrated XLR holds up over time. Seems AKG liked to continue some (bad) tradition they started with the plastic surround of the D12...  ::)

Summary: worthwhile to have around since it sounds pretty different than the others do, yet usable. And dirt cheap.

End of ad, cheers.
