Anyone got any idea when the AC sound site is going to be back up so I can order a couple more of these pcbs? Or has anyone else got a couple of pcbs for sale?

Regards

Spence.
I see the site is back up.  I already have a completed stereo pair that I'm happy so I'm not looking for anything with but was curious if the issues others had got resolved.  Abe was very helpful when I was in-touch with him a couple years ago, sad to see that the business fell apart at some point.  Hope he's got it together as this is a great project.

For me he is a criminal. He took the money from so many people.
It is now almost two years ago scine I ordered the pcbs and the part kits.

I also bought the case and all the other stuff. It takes about 400€ for nothing.
I do not mind about if he is in hell or not. He deserves it.

I didn't realise he had taken a lot of peoples money???
I bought 2 pcbs off him a while back and have made a superb stereo compressor which is really useful on everything but great on kick, snare and bass D.I. straight in works nice.
was thinking about ordering another 2 pcbs but it would be preferable if someone else could do these pcbs now if Abe has taken a lot of money of people and not sent anything. we all im sure have some incredible personal circumstances to deal with but business is business, customers come first and should get what they pay for.

regards

Spence.

I finished stuffing the board and wiring one board. the +-15v calibration went ok and stuffed the ics. so far so good.
the unit passes sound but the threshold and compression pots are not responding, only the gain seem to function (below led is permanently on). any idea where\how to start to fix it?

from reading here I understand that many of the problems are due to bad ics. I do suspect tl071 to be bad (it gets way hotter than the others). how can I check if an IC is bad? also, does the same schematics go for both rev. 2 and 3?

any help would be greatly appreciated,

Tom

If it were me, I'd stuff and wire the other board very carefully and see what happens.  If you have no issues then it should be easier to find the problem in the first board.
Regarding the above/below, I never got that to behave correctly but my units sound great.

BTW, heads-up to those who missed out on this and still want boards.  I heard that there may be another 160vu project coming up soon from a different member.
:)

Hi!

How do the 160vu compare to the gssl?
Is it for dual mono? Or is there a stereo-link?

You rock Dan! Not only have I been getting gray hairs trying to figure out where to get the CLX-VU pcbs, but I also need a couple more Access 312 pcbs. You're a life saver!

Got my boards shipped from Dan today - very happy that this project is available again as I thought this one was gone for good! Dan's service is always top, you wont be disappointed!

Check it out!

The 160VU's claim to fame is the way it 'knocks' on kick and snare.  Really classic sound that makes them groove, in the pocket.  It can do a number of other things well too.  The nature of the attack/release is pretty special.
The SSL4K is more of a bus/mix comp, which gives you more control and versatility.
I have both and tend to go w/ the DBX for individual tracks, or things that need to marry a bit.  SSL for busses and mix.

Yea, his case is great too.  Anyone interested can check a page or two back in this thread to see my build using black can VCAs in a Deurloo case.

Good to hear!  BTW, let me know if you got my last couple emails.  I figured you either got busy or they went to the spam box.

Thanks! If a kit was available for 500-series mono, I'd jump in right now.
But, got me interested :)

could the pcb  for the 160 be fitted to this http://www.audiomaintenance.com/acatalog/blank_pcbs.html to make it compatible with the 51x racks?

No they are much to big to fit into a 500 series thing.
PCB with the easy parts smd prefabricated?
