Adding more resistance to the stock value will increase the release time. Use less for shorter. May want to look at NYDave's mods for variable attack and release. I think he used up all the available range (meaning max possible before the amp becomes unstable).

Excellent, thanks. So by replacing the 1M resistor with a 270K resistor and 1M pot, I should be able to get a faster release.

In these cases, greatly shorter release modifies the attack. Think about it, if the cap is draining faster out one end of the bucket, it takes longer to fill it up on the other. Not a big deal, but not something to ignore either. Many times you see people switching the caps too, to keep consistent relationships.
