Struggling to find an 18 VAC adapter for my unit thats for 230 volts.

If I could find something like this, it would be great because I can just change the lead. There seems to be a few in USA but its for 110 volts  :(

Does anyone know a store that supply something like this? Mouser has none.

Are you sure you are looking for an 18 V AC adaptor?  The unit you've pictured looks like an everyday switch mode power supply that comes with your average Dell or whatever in which case

- It is putting out DC not AC
- It will work with any line voltage (they seem to have a range from about 90VAC to 250 ish).

If you plan on using it for audio you'll need to make sure you get a high quality switcher.

Cheers,
Ruairi

ruairioflaherty I was just using that as a reference. That is a computer type power adaptor in the picture but I was hoping that there is an AC/AC version somewhere.

AMZ, the 18VAC link is for USA 110 volts. I am looking for 240 volts converting to 18volts AC.

Thanks for the replies

sorry to hijack, but is it possible that the 18VAC be filtered even if it is Alternative Current ?
i was also looking for a similar AC/AC adaptor for an old TD166 Thorens turntable that i got a hold of some time ago, i gave up coz i couldn't find much info on the PSU for these TT on the net at the time, if i remember well i think i read somewhere that the 18VoltsAC needed to be filtered? i would love to put together an little PSU for this nice TT or even buy a similar AC/AC adaptor like Canidoit ?
if anyone out there can enlight me ? thanx and sorry again for hijacking this thread but thanks to you i just remembered about this TT taking the dust in the garage for too many years...

If your looking for a 18vac unit, you're in the same boat as canidoit. Just get a 18v transformer and be done. If it needs to be rectified/filtered/dc then buy an 18v walwart and be done.

i was curious about "filtered AC" can AC current be filtered without being rectified ? how would that work ? bobine ? capacitor ? just curious.

You can certainly filter AC for high frequency noise content but why would you want to do that in an AC/AC step down box? Unless the lead from the box to the equipment is screened for EMI it is meaningless. You do it on the entry to the equipment so that it becomes most effective.

Sahib, do most pro audio equipment require a filter? I will be using this for an EQ?

I cant seem to find a 2 X 9 volts AC toroidal. All have been DC.

canidoit?

2 x 9V toridal is probably be as common as a screw driver anywhere around the world. I am surprised you can not get it in Australia.

I have certainly heard the DC toroidal first time here from you ;D. I think you are confused with the terminology here. Adapter is often used in place of power supply but AC adapter is simply a step down transformer. DC adapter is a DC power supply.

Keith,

I am not sure if your comment is directed at me but I simply replied to a question. It is not really a random idea. Yes, you can filter AC even in the simplest form by a shunt capacitor at the IEC and this is a very common application in consumer electronics. Is it required? Well, it certainly wouldn't do any harm to clamp an hf transient before the rectifier and it costs only pennies.

Sahib, you have now lost me ???

Look up Jaycar or Altronics in Australia. They have toroid transformers with a pair of 9V secondaries.
Jaycar has a 17VAC 1.25A plug pack (MP3022) which will do, since the load regulation of these things is pretty ordinary.
