I'm about to finish the Royer Mod to a MXL-2003. I was just wondering if its phantom power safe. Wasn't sure if having an external PSU and phantom power going into that would cause a major problem.

I'm going to be tracking with one of the avid C24 controllers and might have to use the on-board pres, and the phantom power turns on in banks of 8 (tracks 1-8 phantom is either on or off, no individual channel selection.)

the big thing with phantom power killing any mic is usually when you have phantom on and you short 1 side to ground even for a brief moment. For example when patching on a patchbay with phantom engaged. Under normal conditions where phantom is evenly balanced across hot and cold, no damage.

That being said, It's not a good idea to do it as a precaution but won't hurt it.
