Hi guys  :)
Does anyone  know if we can create a song list in logic 9 or some other audio multitrack Mac app? What I mean is a SONG LIST. Yes a song list that brings up another song and disables the current song. Song list for live situations, where we may have 30 different songs that we want to arrange in a different order any night we choose.  ;D

I do this in ableton using a behringer fcb1010 midi foot controller and a series of DIY midi triggers to change songs on the fly.  I switch songs in about 1 second and only need to set up the computer at the beginning of the show and don't look at it for the rest of the night.  It was a big ordeal to get is set up using midi pipe and some applescripts, etc, but it works great and has not yet failed me on stage.

Yes it has to be multitrack , otherwise i have probably more than hundred options  I have mainstage2 included with logic and I tried to set it up but I don't have idea how to make continuous playlist and to avoid midi triggering. I need a setup with just the start at the beginning and stop at the end of the gig  ;)

Eleven years ago when I started working for a well known german band Mr. Lengeling was kind enough to add key commands for "next song" and "previous song", incl. direct access to 20 songs (thanks again Gerd :)) in Logic.

Works like a charm ...
(open all needed songs, name them 01, 02, 03 etc ...)

Digital Performer will do this using the 'chunks' feature.
Great, looks promising. Thanks

Is there any chance to avoid key commands? To make it automated song list?

Interesting  8) BTW is it possible to avoid midi triggering? I would like to make exact song list and let it play .

Well you could use a midi trigger just to start the song and another trigger to start the next song...You can also do it with a keyboard like press "1" for one song and "2" for another song, etc...Since you are doing all audio and depending on the number of tracks, you probably want to be sure your computer is powerful enough, but it shouldn't be a problem because I don't think it'd use more cpu having everything loaded I think it'd only matter the number of tracks that are currently being played.

The reason I use midi triggers during the song is that then you can have sections play longer or shorter depending on the night.

I have been taking some "master classes" with an ableton guy here, and I have to say that Ableton really really impresses me. The level of control you can have is pretty awesome.

untested, but should work:

1) you can define any MIDI message to each key command
2) define one for "next song", put that message at the end of each song and set send it to Logic via the IAC driver

I understand now what you want by just pressing play once.  I don't know an easy way to do that in Ableton.  For my needs, the flexibility of starting stopping when I want is important.

Good one :) thanks

if you put all the songs into one project, you could use Markers in Logic...  then just assign key commands to Jump to Next Marker
Yes, I did that way but changing song order from gig to gig is real pain (in the a**). Chunks from DP is maybe the best way.. still  not sure, but I must decide and transfer the songs . Right now I'm under Studio One Presonus.

Logic plus OnStage

I checked everything about Onstage + Logic. Idea is great if you use some midi switch like this http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/effects/midimouse.html or if you generate midi pg change at the end of each song. BTW, for changing songs order I have to change all the PG changes inside songs :/ not so elegant.... It will be great if I can generate "next PG change" instead of number  :-\ I wonder is that function possible in this situation . I'm talking about silent:arts comment.
I still have a problem figuring out how to make song list flexible. Also, how to force Logic to start playing right after Onstage load it ???

Hi guys, thanks for helping. I think that I'm with onstage + Logic plus some kind of program change keypad like this http://www.midi-hardware.com/PCkpad . I'm afraid that my first idea to put everything running with just one touch at beginning isn't possible, so I decided to accept something like this. I watched the video at fluqe site and I think it's cool http://fluqe.com/movies/OS03.mov. Guy mentioned first message as program change and second for "play from beginning" but I can't figure out is that "enter" from keypad or something else  :-\ do you have some ideas about it. It's crazy to use pg change kypad , than to run and start computer by QWERTY enter. I'm not sure does this # button on keypad box acts same like QWERTY "enter"  ???

Could you do some clever program change commands at the end of each logic session that basically changes to the next song?

It would just have to increment the program change +1 each time.

As far as connection's between Logic and Onstage, there is many ways to do this.
Here is one option: http://notahat.com/midi_patchbay/
