Hi, can someone recommend a place to get some switches like the 'Piggyback' type by Toneluck?

thanks

You can get the C&K ones from Mouser.

Thanks MagnetoSound, are these any better than the ALPS? http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1123858

However, the switch I'm talking about is some kind of double switch with one on top of the other if that makes sense.
It's on page 3 in the toneluck manual.

Apologies warpie, I didn't realise what you meant by 'piggyback' switches. I haven't seen them, but I guess they can be made to order.

You could make them yourself if you can figure out how to remove the sliding internal contacts from the bottom switch. Then you can solder another switch to the pins on the top of the bottom switch and control those pins with the top switch.

IMHO, they are. The C&K switches are a bit more substantial and last a long time. Any time I have used the ALPS version I have been worried about breaking them before the project is even finished. They're not terrible, but the pins are pretty fragile and the actuator is quite prone to flex a little as it is pushed.

Then again, I guess it depends what you want it for. I tend to like my stuff fairly robust, you might not need that particular feature.

No idea about the dubbledeck switches, there's a good chance you need high qty order.

Don't know if it helps but Rapid sells the standard toneluck switches...

e-switch used to make a switch like this.  I think I have a few laying around if you just need them for a repair.  If it is something new, I would suggest a right angle PCB approach.

Hi Brad, thanks for the offer. Are these switches compatible with toneluck (or ALPS) footprint?
How many poles are they?

If it is something new, I would suggest a right angle PCB approach.
It's not for repair. It's a new PCB I'm making. However, it's personal project so maybe even a few of these will do the trick.
If I had enough panel space I would use two different switches but unfortunately that's not an option in 1U rack.

thanks
Michael

Only if you buy 1000 at a time now.  This changed from being able to buy individual switches about 1 month ago.

Yes, I noticed that although I think it applies only to 4pole. You can buy single 2 pole and 6 pole switches I think.
I need 4-pole but since I design the PCB I think I'll make a footprint for the 6 pole anyway.

My only problem is the 'piggythingie' switch that's impossible to find. I was thinking to do somethingt similar to what MagnetoSound described but I'm a bit concerned about the stability.

So I couldn't find them.  I might run across them in the shop, but outlook-not-so-good.

This is what I was thinking of.  Only 20mm tall.

Also CIT makes something like what you are looking for:

I don't know how easy they are to get either.

Good luck.

Apparently it's not so easy to find these switches so I think I'll do the angled PCB solution but thanks for all your help anyway.  :)

It may be that Rapid are just depleting their stock of all these switches, & that they ran out of F4 first, & that when the others are gone they too will be MOQ 1000.  I bought 30 F6's after the F4's went to MOQ of 1000, so I had enough to completely change all the 6 poles on my console.  The problem is the console has about 500 4 poles which I was buying from rapid by the 100 ...alas no more.  & the nearest price I can get them elsewhere is 3 times the price rapid were doing them for :(
