I cast aside the lure of doing any jobs that would pay over the Christamas holidays and built this interface for my audio analyser instead.

Test Equipment p0rn !!

excellent stuff

a dam good project that most people should look at doing if they intend to build a lot of gear.
can make life very easy

it would be nice to have a project from another ozzi at the DIY Factory....

Yea,

Supercool project- very useful!

I'm building a portable thingy like this at the moment- fed up of carrying oscillator/line drivers/transformer boxes/VU box/headphone amp everywhere!

Did you notice how MCI labeled the phase meter wrongly?

+180° at one end, -180° at the other... like a snake eating it's own tail!

Nice, tidy work on your part though!!! -Daddy like!

I got a signal tracer from my girlfriend on christmas with signal generator, calibrated vu meter, automatic gain control or switchable / calibtrated or adjustble, integrated speaker...

It doesn't look as nice as Robs audio analyzer interface but its ok for me. Could look also nice in a 19" case with insert points, phase reverse, speaker switches, source switches, connections to the scope and sound card... I think I have to build a second one with some improvements  For this case I copied the pcb layout from the original pcbs.

I haven't build a second signal tracer so the pcb layout is untested.

thanks for the thumbs up team! I'm about to head off hunting snapper off the southern coast for a week, when i return i'll try and draw up a schematic for the interface box. ( I built this off the top of my head with only the odd chicken scratching on paper or number crunching on the calculator ) It also occurred to me that it might be of use to others for me to outline how i work with veroboard ( strip board ). I build a lot of one-off projects on veroboard and using some particular rules and techniques for layout have no trouble getting performace that equals pcb layout. Veroboard rules!!

My plan is to put this interface and the HP 8903B into a racked road case. So it can sit like that on the bench and i can just pull the power lead out, throw it into the back of the station wagon and hit the road with it.

BTW I notice for all you Aussies that Altronics has a special on the Audio Signal Generator Kit ( $149 ). This generator is pretty good and if it was given a higher performing servo balanced output stage with a few extra contols it would be great to have this in the test arsenal. You just need the analyser now!! ( DIY project ?? )
