Anyone can help to recover Exabyte / Mezzo tapes?
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:50:23 PM »
Hi everyone,

a friend of mine has some old multitrack sessions (well, 10 years 'old') he'd like to remix, stored on exabyte drives with 'mezzo' software. I believe the company who made that software was 'Grey matter response'.
Seems like the company doesn't exist anymore and the software was challenge/response  :( :'(
All that comes up from google are some glorious press reports from back then how safe and important it would be to use their software to keep one's data safe...

Maybe someone here has an idea how to get hold of a working copy of the software or other helpful experiences with this problem?

Thanx,

Michael

Michael,

I have a (iLok) version installed on our BackUp Computer at work, but I don't know if the Exabyte is in working condition (most of our engineers use DLT).
Tomorrow is my last day at work before my holiday, if you are in Berlin we can give it a try.

Hi,

I can help with Mezzo restoration. Any version, any tape.

I wrote my own engine for Mezzo tape format; as the company that wrote Mezzo does not exist anymore.

I have successfully restored multiple tapes from Mezzo 2 and 4.

Best Regards
