The input list is a bit lower than originally thought, so I'm now looking for 36 inputs.

Have you tried touching base with the guys at Vintage King?  If there's a rental in the area they'd surely know.

Yes, unfortunately VK don't do rentals. Jim Kissling (Detroit freelancer) has been very helpful digging up leads.

I may end up having to drive to Toronto, 4 hours from here to get a rig, which seems kind of crazy.

that doesn't sound so crazy to me.

We had to buy/rent some gear for my bands last album, and we had to go to seattle to get it... Of course we didn't HAVE to but our producer/singer had a certain sound in mind (read:felt he needed us to sound just like sound garden). But that's a different story entirely.
