I run Standstraight Music in Stockholm, Sweden.

It's 2 shootouts. One with vocal, and one with acoustic guitar.  I've devided them in Tube, Ribbon, Solid State and Dynamic clips.

I try everything from Shure SM57 to Manley Ref C.

Please feel free to ask me anything if you want to know.

Here are the clips, view in HD for the better sound.

hey,
let me be first to say greetings and welcome. :)

I like the occasional gear 'shootout', but only if its fair and accurate enough to enable a subjective comparison.

I think the youtube video format removes a lot of that.
do you have high quality files of the recordings available elsewhere?

Hey Chris, welcome. Awesome collection of samples. Whilst you tubing might do nasty things to the audio, it's still makes for another closer to real world comparison on how the punters might hear it, so yeah it works for me. Not going to comment on what sounded better in mics, coz some of the cheaper options I think sounded better than the top end ones and at the end of teh day, it becomes very subjective and relative to how it might end up in a final mix with other instruments and often I find thats when the sweet and neuatral sounding $5K mic may not give it the presence or cut that something cheaper may.
Good stuff
Michael
