are there any good books on power amps?

what about some good designs/schematics available?

Douglas Self has a book on power amp design that covers a lot of good stuff. It isn't a cookbook, though, so you still need to know a few things to implement what he presents in the book (I could probably not do it).

Audio Power Amplifier Handbook
By Douglas Self

It's available at Amazon. I got it through an inter-library loan about 9-10 months ago.

Nelson Pass also has some good reading at

I love the use of lightbulbs as a CCS in this one

Mr. Pass is way into diy.

and Doug Self's site is

Looks like he's got a second book now.

There are some lively forums over at

I have one by Ben Duncan called "High performance audio power amplifiers" which looks good, but I haven't gotten too deep into it yet.

for studio monitors.

sorry, i need to learn to be more specific around here.

are there any high quality diy projects out there in any of these books?

How much power do you want or need? , for monitor on stage you need a lot of power to give a nice sound (about 1kw a monitor box)

JLH (John Linsey Hood) did also some nice things on amps as discribed in Wireless World.
