What considerations must be made when only mounting a toroid inside an external case?  The IEC input and grounding would be the same, but is it feasible to run the AC voltage from the output of the trafo a few feet with success, through a cable and 4 or 5 pin XLR connectors?  I assume yes, but it "feels" weird to leave the PSU inside the main chassis and remove only the trafo.

Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks!

Seemed to work fine with a Soundtracs Topaz 32x8x2 board I used to have. That cable must have been at least 10 feet long and supplied the voltages for +- 17 and +48 power supply that was built into the board. Give it a shot.

you can  buy octal sockets and plugs, then use good 16/18 ga pvc wire in different colors to make up the cord, then wrap it with automotive wire sheating made from blasck plastic with as slit down the side,

tube sockets will take HV,

use green for heaters, black is ground, orange yellow and red for phantom, 12 volts for relays and/or pilot lamps, and the last for B+ plate supply,
