how did the lads from pulse tec work out the frequency to cut at, which resistors did they use  from the circuit to enable them to pick the capacitor value

i think the pultec was designed for telephone conversations,

frequencies listed on the front plate are anything but exact,

but you do not want to print  5.427 kc on the panel,

a bell shaped curve is pretty loose anyway, Q is fairly wide compared to RF stuff,

there is no perfect equalizer, each recording is different,

you could pick cap values for a certain recording,

then you could change them a bit for the next recording,

but that is not going to happen, so any equalizer is a compromise,

now you do want to keep reactance the same for each band, so you compute your value of C for each band to give you say, 5,000 ohms at 3 kc, 4kc, 5 kc, etc.
