A friend of mine has a Studer A80 1" 8 track machine sitting in a lock up that he said he'd sell me.  He's asked me to name a fair price; trouble is, I don't know what a fair price is!  I can't see any prices on the internet either!

I don't know what sort of condition it is in now, but apparently it was in perfect condition when it went into the lock up about 15 years ago.

If it is working perfectly, what sort of price would you expect to pay?

That studer appears to be missing parts of the I/O modules.  Look how one or two, doing from memory on my cell phone, has the alignment pots, the other I/O's do not have them hmmmmm.

Not so: module no 1 is mising the black cover that all the others have.

always thought it was one or the other, exposed pots vs no pots and a cover. Never saw a a-80 machine that had pots and a cover. fancy. I just learned something new

Here's what an A-80 looked like when it left the factory:

After these many years, the black covers are typically "lost".

that's the wide body version. I always liked those, easy to look at and align. the narrow body with the 8 channels of electronics under the transport always drove me nuts

Indeed, adjusting channels 17-24 was a PITA on the narrow body version:

(Notice that pic shows all of the covers in place <g>).

Now that I think about it, every A-80 I've worked on the past decades HAS been a narrow body, and like just about every pic in this Google pix link, were all missing the black covers:

I know of one studio in my area which had all their black covers in a cardboard box, sitting in a closet.

Best,

Bri
