Guys,

I modded and apex 460 with the circuit I found here in the documents area for the C24.. I just used one half of the circuit, here it is for reference:
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=44737.msg563663#msg563663

I gutted all the electronics in there and placed in a new capsule and tube. Since I didn't have all components to hand, I made several value changes:

- all the 180M resistors are 200M resistors
- the capacitor going from cathode to ground is 100uF instead of 20uF (biggest change) while the resistor is 2.7k
- the capacitor going from rear of capsule to ground is 6.8nF instead of 4.7nF
- output capacitor is 1.0uF 260V russian PIO

Would these value changes change the tone a lot from what was intended? There is a document for modding Apex460 floating around the internet and it has this to say about the 100uF capacitor that I subbed instead of the 20uF one:

C6-effects low end depending on size-larger=more bottom. Also adds gain.

Comments welcome.

The only change that might make an audible difference is the 100µF rather than 20µF.  I cant see any advantage to doing this. The bass will be rolled off by the 1µF o/p capacitor anyway, and possibly also by your transformer.

What I believe IS worthwhile is to use the second half of the tube as a cathode follower.  There is good information about this on this page: http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=48437.20
