The Grayhill 56 Series 12 position rotary switches 'shorting type', arent that expensive..  I was quoted$ 10.50 a piece,.. No minimum quantity, from Allied Elec.. 6 Week Lead time though!

Are they right angle PC mount?  If so, sign me up for a quantity of 24.  I didn't see any that fit this description on their website, could you point me to a URL with data sheet?

Nope, the 56 series are not the PCB mounting type, although it wouldnt hurt asking allied if they can order them.. The 71 series are what you are after, more expensive too.. Instead of 'AJN' (non-shorting) at the end of the Grayhill part number, ask for 'AJS'. Worth a shot at least...

I am not buying Alpha pots. I don't like them. Very low quality material and construction. If someone wants to sponsor getting Alpha pots fine. Anyone who wants Clarostat pots PM me with the quantity.

Hi Tamas,

I'd definitely want four. If I'm flush when the deal goes down I might take more, but four for sure.

I'd go for about a dozen... if the order can hold off for 5 or 6 weeks then im in for 50 or 60 pieces... I wont have that cash until I finish a project though :\

After looking everywhere for a good 12 pos. PC mount Right angle rotary switch, it looks to be a little bit too expensive, so I'm back to looking at pots again.  I went back to the site Tamas mentioned at the beginning of the thread, http://www.potentiometer.com/catalog388.pdf for a closer look.

The main reason I wanted to go with a rotary switch is I want a lot of strength in the mounting as one side of my PCB is going to be supported by the switches and DI jack.  These little pots just didn't look sturdy enough, that is until I saw the support plates, see item B-24-5, basicly, other than the 3 pins of the pot itself, it adds four more support pins, one in each corner, me thinks that's plenty.  If we were to do an order of the 388 reverse log taper 25K pots, I'd be in if they were the ones that come with support plates.

So, what were you guys thinking about as far as the specifics if this pot?  I hadn't really seen anything in this thread that detailed it, Tamas?  As far as I can tell, going by the 388 data sheet, I'll put out there what looks to me to be ideal, let me know what you guys think.

388 style
single module
B-24-5 mounting plates, both ends
25K
RZ taper
.375 long bushing
1/4" dia shaft, 3/8" long
no locating pin
standard mounting hardware

I think that would be a sturdy pot, of high quality, very fitting for such a fine project.  If a group order could keep the cost below $15 per pot I'd be game for about 20 or so.

Plexi
Another option although expensive.
Do not know the exact part but look for
PCB mount switches.
These guys are 45 minutes away and I know the sales manager.
Never used then on my stuff because I never had the money to throw at them.

And the other guy who likes switched attenuators the kings are
2 miles away I go by their dumpsters but have NEVER gotten lucky.

I think I posted the following configuration at the beginning:
-25K reverse log (RZ)
- No bracket (mounting)
- 1/8" diameter shaft
- 3/4" long shaft

Will Kelley's proposal this work for everyone else?
If so I will go back an get a quote for this configuration.
