I am struggling to find some decent knobs that will fit a Grayhill 71 series rotary switch - the type with the quarter inch D shaped shaft. I really would like a push on type with a separate top insert with a line so I can have different coloured knobs and easily align the knob position with the panel legend. Sifam do exactly what I want BUT they only do it in a 6mm shaft, and despite trying to apply a file to one I cannot get it to fit a 71 Series shaft.

Here's a link to the Sifam part:

Any ideas??

Cheers

I've ordered Sifam knobs from Selco, which is a supplier in the USA. They list a push-on knob for a 1/4" D shaft:

I'm not sure however if these have a separate top insert. The collet type do, which is what I've ordered in the past.

You know, those look awfully like Sifam knobs - even the part numbers look right -instead of 06 on the end for 6mm they have 250 for quarter inch. So why don't they show up in Sifams web page?

P.S. I should have mentioned I am looking for 15mm diameter knobs.

Thanks for the tip.

I have been using OKW knobs. http://www.okwenclosures.com/products/okw/comb-knobs.htm They are collet knobs so not perfect for a D shaft but close enough in my book. I have been toying with the idea a small plastic inserts from rod stock for better grip.

Here in the States the distributor only has a 10pcs minimum which is very nice. The collet inserts are interchangeable. Most sizes are available in 4mm, 6mm, 1/8" and 1/4". You can't by collets separately (10,000pc minimum) but the knobs are cheap enough to sacrifice some if you need a combination that isn't available.
