I am in the process of designing my frontpanel for my SSL clone.

I looked at the "pricing" and it totaled 64.00?

Is that possible? I remember reading that some people paid like 25-30.00

It's only 1U.

It doesnt sound too horrible..
I spent about US$45 on mine. But I supplied the panel and it was a pretty simple design...
Check your design.
If you want I'll find mine and send you for you to compare.
drop me an email to remind me gilparente AT yahoo DOT com
64? Euro, Lira, Renimbi, Australien Dollar?
USD. sorry, sometimes I forget about the international scope of this board.

I was reading about converting the whole design to HPGL (cheaper) or something with Corel Draw 9? I don't have this program nor can i locate it to play around with.

from front panel express?

if you use a fill on the engravings it drives the price up by $10 to $20

Which frontpanel file do you use? Your own one?

The price increases also if you:
-are using the fillings (like scearia says)
-don't use customer material
-you have doubled objects
(Check for double engravings and drill holes... You can see only one part at a time but if there is another one under the first one you'll pay the double price)

A cheap one for 30,17 € is here:

Frank.

wiz1der, write your location into your profile and everyone knows from where you are.

Doing the whole labeling in HPGL (CorelDraw, Frontdesigner) is much cheaper than doing the labeling with the built-in fonts and dots.

I just ordered a 3RU panel for my SSL clone, total was 58euro.

I used the one from Frank's site, but it was "filled and drilled", i noticed that and took all filling off, and just added some of my own wording on the outer edges. There are 3 tool changes total. If it was still "filled" I'd probably be paying wayyyyy more.
If it's the meter I'm thinking about, it just barely fits a 3u panel. Man, that's going to be wicked looking! :green:
It is that meter, but erm...yeah....I got some knobs yesterday, the color was a bit off from what I saw it as on the net, if the frontpanel is off as well it could be a frontpanel fashion disaster. If it turns out nice itll be the cheesiest best ever 70s/russian, large meter wicked looking SSL clone EVER.

Jakob offered to help me out finishing it, so Im just rounding up the case parts

Well....disastor or not. Its certainly something you either gotta love or hate.

I think its got the generel vibe I was going for, but I wouldve liked it to be a bit more mat in the color. Now I just have to figure out how to get the meter dyed blue or red. Im tempted to have it goldplated and putting a "disco only" post-it on the comp.
