I started with 1 1/4" Dia PVC plumbing pipe. Cut disks on a table saw.

Cut to shape with a fine saw, drilled holes for screws.

I could have sanded it down more to make it less bulky, but I had long enough screws (screws from an MXL donor mic).
Inside diameter of the PVC is perfect for 34mm capsules. (This is the group buy 47 type capsule)

And here is on a Dale / Thiersch style. The PVC inside diameter is 34mm, and these capsules are slightly smaller ~32mm. I put a 'liner' of brass 1/4" stock inside the mount with a wire soldered on for the backplate connection that filled the gap and secured the capsule as the screws are tightened.
I switched to set screws after I took this picture. The PVC threads really well and seemed to work fine. Again I could have sanded this down to make it less bulky.

Simplicity in engineering at it's finest!
This is great and I just ordered two Thiersch mounts :( Oh well.
I'll use this method for my c37 style capsules when I get around to putting those together which is hopefully v.soon.

Cheers,
jb
