Public service reminder to USA: make sure to vote!  I was able to get it over with today.

I wonder if those folks who voted a few weeks ago, would like an opportunity to change their votes?  ;D

I wouldn't mind extending the vote over a weekend or a couple days. While how far off is Internet voting? What could possibly go wrong with that.  ;D ;D ;D

Vote early and often...

I hope this kind of stuff doesn't happen to much.  The election is to close to have it go wrong one way or the other.

http://myfox8.com/2012/10/23/guilford-county-voters-say-they-voted-for-the-wrong-candidate/

Scary stuff.

I just don't understand a month of early voting in some states.  A week maybe with an appropriate period for absentees, but a month?
We had fraud in a local district where there were more votes for the dem candidate for town council than total people voting in the district that day. Problem was that the rep candidate had to sue the Board of Elections rather then them being investigated by the county DA. He was so broke from the campaign he did nothing.
Can't believe that only 57% of those eligible voted in 2008. It's always less than two thirds. Pathetic.

Same kind of stuff happen here in MN.  Al Franken all the sudden won by I think 30 votes.  Only because 3000 votes showed up 2 days later.  Some where in the election Judges trunk?  Seems to convenient to forget about them.  I'm sure it happens the other way as well.  But this is just plan silly.  Our vote is to important to have it made worthless by anyone cheating the system.  Specially in these very close elections.  Its 2012.  I would think we would have a very simple way to make the elections clean and fair.  Instead they are still mess.

I'm still gonna vote because it seems like the only thing I can do.

We can always use another comedian in the senate...  :D

The good news is that most vote fraud is local and modest so does not statistically impact mainstream results.

There is an ongoing argument where the two sides seem to be arguing about unrelated things. One side wants to stop all voter fraud and believes voter picture ID card requirements will help. The opposing view argues that requiring picture IDs is tantamount to a poll tax to suppress poor voters who mostly break for one party.

In this day and age it seems picture IDs could be made on the spot at the voting station, Just sit for a digital portrait and leave behind a thumb print. Free... picture IDs, show up and swear you are who you say you are... Just don't lie. If the election is disputed, we can check the data and making false claims to vote is already illegal.

Switch the system to proporational representation and get rid of the electoral college and this would probably change.

I remember that. The "lost" votes turned up days or weeks after the election, while the outcome was in dispute. Strangely enough, out of the thousands of votes that were "lost", every single one of them happened to be for Franken, not one for the other candidate. It could happen, right? Nothing shady there at all. And I think it was also just a mere coincidence that this seat determined who had majority rule in the senate. I still trust the system...

If enough of you voted really early, we in the rest of the world wouldn't have to suffer this circus every four years...

Imagine the suffering in the swing states getting bombarded with a few $B in attack advertising.

While that may not pass the smell test, Coleman sued, and the Mn supreme court upheld the election so if there was vote fraud it was not adequately proved.  If you have some new facts bring it on, but this has been settled, so we need to move on.  We always need to close any gaps in vote integrity as we learn about them, for next time.

If we can have a self defined "socialist" (Bernie Sanders VT) in the senate, there's room for one more shrill liberal weenie (ex-SNL coke head). If the people of MN change their mind, they can always replace him next time around.

=====

While the voter turnout is a little embarrassing, I wouldn't want to dilute my vote further by encouraging more of the poorly informed, and uninvolved public to vote. Perhaps if we forced them to vote to collect their food stamps and other government handouts (I wonder how they would vote? ). For a long time there was actually a nuisance cost to active voters as it made you more likely to be called for jury duty. I believe most states have stopped that negative incentive.

I have said this before and I would be tempted to go back to the original system where senators were appointed by the state legislatures, and not popular votes. IMO there has been too much power shifted to the federal government and away from the states and local governments.  The closer the decision making is to the people affected by the decisions, the smarter and more representative the government decisions will be.

This looks like it is shaping up to be a tight race. I am still trying to figure out how somebody could still be undecided, while I understand people being confused. Both candidates are guilty of doing the political two-step, changing their campaign rhetoric as the winds shift. Duh.... they're politicians.

PS For today's dose of irony,
the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, a partner group of the United Nations, will deploy 44 observers from countries such as Germany, France, Serbia, Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan to observe the U.S. election amid concerns of voter suppression efforts by conservative groups.

While I am mildly irritated, by the implication, don't they know that Jimmy Carter, actually lives here.  8) it seems there is a list of  other elections more worthy of inspection.

That's a pretty shrill characterisation of the senator. Judge for yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SCNs7Zpqo98

I was a little shrill but historically accurate. His SNL Stuart Smalley character and behavior back then is part of his personal history (I did say ex- I assume he has cleaned up his drug use), and his failed attempt as a very shrill ultra-liberal radio talk show host is also common knowledge.  He is no doubt representing a segment of the population, and apparently legally elected.

I do not agree with his politics, and the name calling in this one case seemed appropriate. He hasn't shown any evidence (to me) of changing his spots after he got elected. He did vote for the patriot act reauthorization in 2011, but the rest of his votes and bills co-sponsered are not in line with my world view.

He isn't due for reelection until 2014, so not worth wasting too much time on now, other than reviewing that 2010 vote in case there are any changes needed to reduce even the appearance of fraud next time, but that can wait a couple weeks we have 2 years.

When are we going to start talking about Jessie "The Body" Ventura?
No Minnesota politics discussion would be complete otherwise :)

I'd  like to hear from someone who believes there is significant voter fraud to volunteer at a polling place as a worker or observer - and report back.

Whoops, thought you were talking about GW Bush for a second.
