Toy field recorder

I found this playskool tape recorder in a junk box. It takes four C batteries. At first it didn't work, so I opened it up and worked the gears. I thought it would just need new belts, but the ones in it are o.k. I took it out and recorded a marching band last week. This actually sounds o.k. It works, it's rugged, and I'm fine with it breaking or getting stolen. I dumped the audio onto my computer and started to tweek it a bit. One improvement I can make is reduce the motor noise, just what I need, another project.

Hmm, it would be cool to upgrade the mic(s).
