So I finally got around to breadboarding this:

http://sopht.250free.com/low-volume.html

My thought was to just use a 12V wall wart to power the whole kit-n-kaboodle. The heater current for the two tubes comes to 600ma combined. So I put a 1A wall wart on it and figured that should cover it. The problem is that the wall warts aren't really 12V and don't have any regulation in them. I was thinking of a regulator in one of those TO-3 cases that takes 1.5A but I'm really looking for some other simple ideas that I may be missing.

Neither is the car these tubes were made for!

Playing the radio with the engine off, you soon dropped to 11V. Hauling down the road in summer, the old dynamos soared to 14.4V. That's just part of the fun of designing car audio. The tubes will be OK.

10V will be a bit weak, 15V will be strong but heater life may be shortened from 10,000s of hours to 1,000 hours. Considering the cost of these tubes today, a penny/hour tube replacement cost is insignificant.

You CAN find regulated 12V warts if you look around.

You could add a resister in the heater part to drop the voltage down a bit.
