Hey fellas,

I'm about to finish up my frankenstein ssl box. The modules are as follows:

x-rack EQ
5000 input
5000 compressor

Now, i'll be sending the x-rack EQ output to the input return of the input module. The question now is, will it damage the circuit if I go balanced into the insert?
Do I have to just go with a single pin in order to cut the volume half?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hi Attic,

lets see, If the point where you want to place the balanced insert/return has an unbalanced output, then you need to place a line driver: (TI DRV134).  If the return is also unbalanced, then place a Line receiver:
(INA 137 -6db). or another from that corp, see thatcorp.com.

I don't know much, if anything about the ssl5000 modules, but if both input and output are unbalanced, the simple solution is to keep the insert return unbalanced. Some links:
