Hi,

So i have been building a good few clones recently and i have been asked by someone if i am able to build a 5.1 surround sound compressor based on the ssl multichannel compressor:

http://www.solid-state-logic.com/music/Xlogic%20Multichannel%20Compressor/

From what i gather this compressor has 6 gseries compressors inside it with a bunch of other little features inside it. Namely having only two sets of controls on the front, one for the 5 channels and on for the LFE (This is switchable if you wish to use the unit as 2 stereo compressors). This is one feature that i like as it makes the compressor simple to use.

My question is has anyone tried making anything like this? or does anyone have any thoughts on things to consider when trying to design this? i dont have a massive knowledge of electronics but i do have a good understanding of it. I would probably go about this by ordering the insides of 6 gssl compressors and carry out a few tests to try and make things work.

Another nice feature is the side chain ajust trim and max display which shows which channel is hitting the side chain the most and therefore conroling the compression. i would like to try and create this too.

The only small bit of info i found was from a 2006 thread:

This guy has given me hope that it shouldnt be too much trouble to create.

Love to know peoples thoughts on this one.

Jon

Bottom of the page.  I couldn't find the gdiy post where RJR talked about it but 'm sure you can contact him through his own website.
