Hey there. My NT1-A has recently given up the ghost. It still picks up sound just fine, but has this weird rumbling/wind noise coming from somewhere.
I'm going to replace the caps today, but if that doesn't work, can anyone offer me any advice?

The sound it's making: https://www.dropbox.com/s/td7b39v4on6xf1j/micnoise.mp3

Thanks!

I've definitely heard this type of noise introduced by bad caps. In my experience, it wasn't as constant tho. Replacing them is a good place to start.

There is moisture or contamination in the High Z part of the circuit.
  • the capsule itself
  • the wiring between it and the FET
  • wiring around the 1G resistors
VERY careful cleaning with 100% alcohol on the PCB and High Z bits with careful drying may help.  Be careful not to wet the capsule as if much gets behind the diaphragm, you need a new one.

I this doesn't help, I'd send it back to Rode.  They'll clean the other bits if they change the capsule.
