Thanks, Guys.

So in the Retro 176, are they switching a cap and a voltage divider for each "leg" in place of the interstage tranny?

I am a bit confused as to what change would occur on switching the interstage tranny out of circuit. All I can find is that it changes "colour". Is is cleaner with or without do you think?

I think it is just switching out interstage traffo and replacing as you say - RC coupling circuit.

In my 175b build, I decided to leave the traffo hardwired in.
My reasoning is firstly that traffo cost a lot!  It better sound better!

Secondly, I would it expect it should have less noise due to the humbucking and
perhaps a slightly smaller bandwidth.

80K:15K is quite a few turns so it needs to be good not to degrade the audio.

Anyhow, I'll know more in a couple of weeks when I do my first tests with and without.

Chrs
