finally figured out what was wrong with this xfmr that somebody sent me a while back,

i believe this is an API type output, quad wound, we will take it apart and see,

problem was a short between coils, an unlucky short, red to yellow, 2 Finish leads that were supposed to be isolated were tied together, which means if you series connect red to orange, you will be shorting out the org-yel coil, these things are like resistors, brn is a start, red is it's finish, org is the next start etc,

here is the Main Offender, which is also a cool album by Keef Richard>

air dry epoxy means that you heat the core up and slice it quick with a knife before it cools of, old school xfmr lams can be used, but you bend up the lams when you pull a newer unit apart as there is sticky epoxy instead of wax,

300 turns of non braided quad wire, looks like a DIY twist job, twisted wire is very expensive as they have to meet a spec of say, 2 1/2 turns per inch, or some other number, this looks more random,

closeup of quad wire,

so this is bobbin wound on a sq. stack of 625 EI, 625 means 0.625 tongue width, so 50 EI would have a half inch tongue, 175 EI would have a Gene Simmons tongue,  :D

DCR was 9 ohms per winding,

inductance per each wind at 2 to 20 volts (low freqs drag down the sig gen,)was

1.6 H at 5 Hz, 1.7 at 10 Hz, 2.39 H at 40 Hz, 3.45 at 100 hz and 0.8 H at 1K.

that should be it, real easy coil to DIY, twist  the wire with a hand drill if you have access to a big room, takes about 99 feet of wire, wind it on the bobbin by hand, 300 turns is cake.
