Has anyone experience with using a Inkjet-UV flatbed-printer for 'screening' front panels?

UV cured ink seems to be quite durable and applicable to many substrates.
It may also be an alternative for laser-toner transfer PCB etching.

It's these kinds of things that make me with printers were more open box...

Is there such a thing as an open source printer project somewhere, where I can build what I need from parts and buy an open source controller/driver pack?
 
I've done few frontpanel with this method. Needs clear coating though as UV colors ain't scratch proof.
