It's been a busy many hours since last night.
Here's a brief list of some snazzy updates:

-Guinness emoticon :guinness:
-Sam Adams emoticon (have to have the Sammy! :sam: )
-You must now be registered to post (to eliminate confusion)
-Email notifications should now be working
-(anything else that might need immediate attention?)

To do list:
-Get a domain to directly lead us in here (will announce when ready)
-Make a few HTML tweaks.

I have to thank:
Jim Bray (for covering my arse at work)
of course my boss: Chae Ham
If you run into either of those guys let them know they're very very cool people!

Thanks to everyone for making this a success!

Yes! Thank you to Chae, Ethan, and everyone else for making the Tech Talk sequel even better than the original.

Although, speaking of emoticons, could we get that really toothy grinning green guy back? He's one of my very favorite emoticons. Thanks!

Thanks for all the hard work - very much appreciated. I'm sure a large amount of the technical content will reappear here in one form or another soon.

A quick request - can we have a thumbs-up icon? I used to like that one!

S

Thanks, Ethan - and Chae Ham..!

I really appreciate what you have done for us.

Jakob E.

btw: I have no idea how emoticons work on boards like this - but could this maybe be considered for inclusion:

What do you guys think about making a button sort of thing for each projects archived discussions? Like the 1176 could have it's own button and you just hit it to see all the archived stuff instead of having to do a big search and wading thru stuff? Just a thought.

:green: :thumb: :guinness:

Yeah!

Joel

PS: Of curse we could change the archived discussions to just word text, etc. I'd be willing to work on one project, and if we split the work, it'd probably get done pretty quickly...

Or - just an idea - what about keeping meta-threads about the different specific-subject threads.

Something like having a meta-G7 thread, where links - and possibly descriptions - of the ongoing and old posts relating to the G7 issue.

That way it would be easy to organize and find the right thread for a specific question - from reading the "compressed" meta-thread.

The old "giant thread" (on the 1176) seemed to become more and more unuseable for most but the few stubborn hardcore readers. At the end most questions were already answered, but were hard to point to directly..

Or?

Jakob E.

I think it might be easiest just to simply put in Folders based on parts. That way different questions pertaining to the part can be different threads but all kept in one neat Folder.

This will avoid repetition and keep the threads a little shorter.

Is this possible?
If so lets get this installed ASAP cause the threads/topics are already growing.

[quote author="cjenrick"]Ethan! Thanks again and again!

So what about avatars?
Is that a go or no go?

Dosen't really bother me any, so don't sweat it.

No Problem.

You can use avatars, you just have to host them and link to them in your profile section (allowing uploads presents a security risk).

Next on the agenda is a REAL chat room feature, that integrates with the forum so no messy popup windows/javascript and such. But that may take a few days, I still have some work to do.
All in good time... Nice turn out! Thanks for getting the word out covertly CJ.

This is very cool. I wanna give a shout out to my homies, Ethan and Chae. I also wanna shout out to all my peeps throwing down they thang at the new spot. Yo to my crew Lil' Gimpy, Shoe Lace, and Dogg Shizznat.

Ok, I made those guys up.

Are we going to figure out a system for donations and such?

I would imagine the best donation we could make would be to buy things from Prodigy Pro, our host company. Even if it's just cables, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated.

Great idea!

Hi Admin,

How did we do on our first day - in terms of bandwidth use and so on?

There has been so much intense activity the past 12 hours - and I notice no decrease in speed whatsoever. Never been to a faster reacting forum - ever.

Do you have any stats? Will this work in the long run?

Jakob E.

A big thanks to those mentioned as responsible for our new space!

It'll be sad since I had posts in other forums on RO but what can you do?

what else can be said about the RO Admin's childish name calling? It was entirely unprofessional for anyone to do for any reason.

I digress. I'm happy that we are mostly all here and we can move on without Nazi like people pushing us out because they don't understand what we do or what we stand for.

that is all.

at ease gentlemen!

now get back to posting some gearporn!
